He tried to hang out with his friend Rowley but nothing turned out right. Like at the country club they spent too much money so Rowley's dad got mad. They tried to raise money to pay for how much they spent by opening up a lawn mowing business. But they only got one customer and that did not work out. So then Greg was not allowed to go to Rowley's country club anymore. Then Greg got really mad because he had no place to swim, and the pool by his house was not very good. It was always crowded and dirty, and the food was bad, and you have to check for a bee before you sip your drink. Greg's mom hated to see Greg's so bored, so she opened up a reading club and invited all Greg's friends, and they all brought comic books and drawing books and popup books and ridiculous books. Mom's idea of books would be one of the “classics”. So then everyone else in the group dropped out. Greg was then left all by himself and his mom to read books all summer, but he bailed from that. Greg's birthday was not so good either. His mom made him open the presents so politely, like having to read all the cards before taking out the money. For Greg that was a pain but he got through it. And the last present was a little box, and Greg thought it was a new phone. He was half right, and half wrong. They gave him something like lady bug, which only have two buttons on it: one is for home, and the other one is for emergencies. Once it was cake time, they found out that the uncle's dog ate three quarter of the cake. Greg tried to eat the part that the dog did not eat. Greg's mom wanted to make up for the cake so she gave Greg some money to buy his own present. The present that he bought was a fish, and his brother bought the same thing. Greg tried to make a diary of what the fish did but that was very hard to do because the fish never did anything. After that was Greg's dream of what he was going to do when he grows up, which is, be famous. Greg's family went on a vacation to Slip and Slide water park. But while they were there it rained so they had to leave and they were stuck in traffic. Greg's mom got really tired and went to sleep in the back of the car while the dad was driving. Then they made a little pit stop, and the mom went to the bathroom without telling anyone, and they ended up driving home without her. And then they went all the way back to the gas station, and found their mom. Their mom was really, really mad. So that was the whole summer. Hope you have a better summer than Greg.
